True hearth healthy tips that may work for you:

1. Always cook heart healthier meals.

2. Substitute one whole egg with 2 egg whites OR if a recipe uses 3 eggs, you can always discard 2 of the yolks. Remember, only egg yolks contain cholesterol.

3. Use low fat milk in place of coconut cream or dairy cream.

4. Use a moderate amount of meat, but fill up that meat dish with lots of vegetables.

5. Be light handed with you cooking oil. Remember that the more oil you end up using, the more fat you will be consuming in your diet.

6. Pack it – avoid eating out so much by packing lunch to take to the office or school.

7. Add lentils and beans to stews, soups and curries to boost fiber and to cut down on meat.

8. Try to include deep sea fish such as cod, seabass, trout and mackerel about 2 times a week in your daily diet. A sensible portion is a 100 grams of fish (about the size of your computer mouse or a deck of playing cards)

9. Switch to lower fat versions of milk, cheese, yogurt, margarine spreads, mayonnaise, etc.

10. Cut down on deep fried foods. Other cooking methods such as braising, boiling, steaming, baking, roasting and grilling do not require the use of so much oil.

11. Educate yourself on what a heart healthy diet entails. Read health magazines, books, newspaper articles and reputable health websites. The more knowledge you gain about matter, you’ll be a much wiser food consumer.

12. Make your heart healthy diet realistic. One that is too strict and extreme can ‘bomb’ on you in the long run.

13. If you’re craving a salty crispy snack, give potato chips a miss. Instead, try baked potato chips, Japanese rice crackers or low – sodium pretzels.
